How Scoreboard Live is organised
Scoreboard Live keeps the live score of badminton matches and shows it where people can see it — on the umpire's tablet, on big screens in the hall, and on the public web site. This page explains the pieces it is built from and how they fit together, so you know where each task belongs.
What the system does
- Score matches — an umpire scores a match in the Scoreboard Live Umpire app (or on a connected scoreboard), and the score updates everywhere in real time.
- Organise tournaments — you create tournaments, fill them with classes or teams, and assign matches to courts.
- Show results — scores appear live on big screens in the venue and on the public tournament pages.
Clubs
Everything in Scoreboard Live belongs to a club. A club owns its tournaments, its venues and courts, and its teams. Your account is tied to a club, and you administer that club's data.
Tournaments
A tournament is the central object you work with. Every tournament has a type that decides how it is structured and displayed. You pick the type once, when you create the tournament, under type of tournament.
There are five types. The first is for individual players; the other four are about teams.
Cup — individual players
A cup is an ordinary tournament for individual players, divided into classes (see below). Use it for an open or a championship where people enter events such as men's singles or mixed doubles.
Team competition
A team competition is a single tie between two teams (for example two clubs). The result is decided by a line-up of individual games — a number of singles and doubles — and the team that wins the most games wins the tie.
Series table
A series table is a league or division: a standings table built from many team competitions over a season. Each round is a team competition, and the table adds up the results.
Team cup
A team cup is a knockout bracket whose entries are teams. Each tie in the bracket is a team competition, and the winner advances to the next round. You set the number of teams and place teams into the bracket.
Team series
A team series is a round-robin where every team plays every other team once. Scoreboard Live creates the team competitions for you and keeps a standings table.
Classes (inside a cup)
Within a cup tournament, players are divided into classes. A class has:
- a category — men's singles (ms), women's singles (ws), men's doubles (md), women's doubles (wd) or mixed doubles (xd); and
- a type — a cup (a knockout draw that advances winners) or a round-robin (everyone in the class plays everyone else).
A class holds the matches for that event.
Matches
A match is a single game between two players or pairs. Each match has a score system (how many games and points decide it, e.g. standard 21-21-21), a status (waiting, in play or finished) and the running score. Matches are what the umpire app scores and what the big screen shows.
Players and teams
Players are the individuals entered into a cup's classes. Teams are the clubs or sides that meet in the team formats; a team can be reused across tournaments, and each team has a name and an optional logo.
Venues and courts
Venues and courts are the physical side, and they belong to the club rather than to one tournament:
- A venue is a hall — a place where matches are played.
- A court belongs to a venue. When play is on, you assign a match to a court; the umpire app and the big screen then follow that court.
- Because courts belong to the club, the same court can show matches from different tournaments on different days.
A court with no match assigned can instead show sponsor images on the big screen — see Sponsor images and other screensaver content.
Putting it together
A typical event looks like this:
- Create a tournament of the right type for your club.
- Add classes (for a cup) or teams (for the team formats), and the matches are created from them.
- Assign each match to a court in your venue.
- The umpire scores the match in the app; the score appears live on the big screen and on the public pages.
